How do we teach studio practices? I've realized that I can teach technical skills and art appreciation but I'm not sure that teaching someone to "be" an artist is an option. I am introducing some activities with my studio students to consider artistic process and what type of commitment is required to be successful in the arts.
We are starting with a comparison of the work of Ethan Tennier-Stuart. He is currently more focused on design but the progression of his work has been highly publicized on the Internet. His work provides a great visual transition as someone improves their technique.

I rarely do "handouts" but this warmup is a printout that can be broken into 2-4 days. I'm going to focus on comparing artwork and wait until the end to identify the work as a single person's. I'm hoping this is a good opportunity to discuss "how" someone becomes a technically proficient artist.
