Next week's Social Studies and Visual Art mashup...

Get a piece of sketchbook paper from the gray shelf.  Today we will be watching three videos on Wayang, Chinese Shadow Puppets, and the Asian Puppet Theatre.  While the videos play, identify at 20 designs and shapes that you find interesting and replicate, draw, them on the piece of sketchbook paper.  Ensure that your name is in the upper and place in the blue box when the video is complete.

Rina Banerjee and Mythology

A new warmup!

“Rina Banerjee's art is a quixotic universe of gods and monsters. She manipulates swans' wings, luminous beads, light bulbs and dribbles of red paint into sculptural assemblages that look like shrines, or religious offerings left for an unknown deity. It barely seems surprising that a catalogue for a recent exhibition began with the words: ‘Once upon a time in a land far away, where the wild things are …’ “ -Jessica Lack

mythology-a collection of myths, especially one belonging to a particular religious or cultural tradition

Read the quote from Jessica Lack, review the definition for mythology, and watch the video featuring Rina Banerjee.  On a piece of scratch paper, using a Perfect 3 Sentence Answer, explain what you think Rina Banerjee means when she uses the term mythology to describe her artwork.  Place in the blue basket when complete.
